Councillor for Clevedon West
  • Unitary Councillors

Luke has lived in North Somerset all of his life.

Luke fought against the closure of the Moor Roads in 2021 because the scheme was ridiculous and he helped to spearhead the effort to keep them open.

From 2022-25 Luke has stridently opposed the debacle of Clevedon Seafront's active travel schemes and has successfully led a campaign to reverse the scheme. His first contribution to North Somerset was to second a motion to hold the Administration to account, ensuring that they pledged to reverse the scheme on the public record.

Luke has worked to oppose North Somerset introduction of parking charges at every turn. To achieve this he suggested 14 amendments to the policy in a bid to make it vaguely sensible and coherent as opposed to the extortative, cash grab which will hurt our high streets and add another barrier to businesses.
Luke also called for two executive councillors to be sacked to save money and to reduce the financial burden of the proposed parking charges.

Since becoming elected, it became clear that Clevedon BID had serious drawbacks and the business community held major concerns. As a result Luke has worked with the BID supporting it's rebranding into Discover Clevedon, the new management team and various internal reforms to make Discover Clevedon the best possible version of itself. By frequently liasing with Discover Clevedon, Luke can work to ensure strong representation of local businesses.
Luke has successfully, worked with businesses and Discover Clevedon to establish public toilets on the Salthouse Fields during the peak season.

Additionally, since 2023, Luke has led a campaign and petition to get Penny Fields included as a Local Green Space (formally protected from development) in the Local Plan 2040 (North Somerset's housebuilding/planning strategy).

There is still plenty to do with concerns around Clevedon Hall's expansion and to restore the Salthouse Field's miniature railway (and resolve disputes around the wider concessions), to name only two ongoing matters.

As North Somerset Conservatives Association, we are certain that Luke is a hard working and active councillor who will always strive to support his resident's.
